K & D Championships Teams Gala Sunday 10th June Huddersfield Leisure Centre.
With over 35 swimmers on poolside and a huge following of spectators, Brighouse certainly made themselves known.
First up was the Under 10 girls Freestyle Team consisting of Charlotte Shaw, Olivia Stafford, Ruby Doherty and Izabel Young and The Under 10 Boys Medley Team made up of Jack Blamires, Hartley Earl, Alfie Heslop and Jake Norris. Great swimming from our youngest swimmers.
It was then onto the 11 & 12 year boys medley team and girls freestyle team. Another round of great swimming with cheers of support from the supporters as the boys won Gold and the girls Bronze.
We were lucky to be able to swim two teams in the Girls 13/14 years age group. Both A and B Teams performed very well. In the Freestyle event, The A Team won 2nd place and the B Team 5th place and in the Medley event, the A Team took 1st place and B Team 5th place. In the Boys 13/14 years, the freestyle team won Silver position.
The Junior Girls and Junior Boys did themselves proud in their events with the Junior Girls Medley Team taking the Gold spot first place in their event. Katherine Howell, Ruby Harris, Emily Layden-Fritz and Thea Jones were fabulous. In the Freestyle event they achieved Bronze medals.
In the Open section, both the Open Boys and Open Girls cleared the board winning all their events, first place Gold medals and trophies for Poppy Layden-Fritz, Emma Sykes, Amelia Clough, Imogen Gee, Martin Squire, Steve Price, Cameron Price and Ben Bottomley. Their performance in the pool was outstanding.
The final event of the afternoon was the 10 x 50m freestyle Cannon event. Over the years Brighouse Swimming Club has grown immensely and we swam two teams in the cannon event.
It was a very proud and emotional moment for Head Coach Brian Smart as his two teams of twenty swimmers gave the most fantastic performance in the pool. The crowd of spectators were on their feet as the final swimmers dived in for the final two lengths. In the A Team, Cameron Price was the last swimmer and swam his final length in great time. Ben Bottomley was the final swimmer in the B Team and too gave it his all.
The Brighouse A Team took Gold and The Brighouse B took Bronze. The volume of applause was immense and the display of celebration from the swimmers was very well deserved.

BSC News.... Masters Yorkshire Championships John Charles Centre.
A fantastic display of swimming was put on by our Masters Swimmers from Brighouse Swimming Club in May at the Masters Yorkshire Championships held at The John Charles Centre.
Martin Squire, Steve Price, Amelia Clough and Gemma Sykes participated in the Medley Relay Team and won themselves the second place spot and Silver Medals all round.
Both Steve and Martin parti
cipated in individual events too during the competition earning themselves wonderful new personal best times.
For the four participants, they took a great crowd of spectators with them to cheer them on and show the younger swimmers how it's done!
Huge congratulations to all four of them they did Brighouse proud.
11TH MAY GALA 2
With a huge amount of swimmers and spectators filled to capacity, it was a busy one!
Cameron Price was back on top form after recently qualifying for and competing at The North East Regional Championships ,were he achieved new personal best times. Cameron won every event he competed in at the internal gala and set four further club records. Amazing swimming yet again from Cameron.
Imogen Gee also displayed some fabulous swimming and set a new record in the girls Junior Girls 25m Freestyle. Young Jamie Haines won his four events also and set two new club records in the Boys 11/12 year 4 x 25m Individual Medley and the Boys 11/12 years 50m Breaststroke.
In the Under 9’s group Ryan Brooksbank took Gold in the 25m Freestyle, Silver went to Alfie Heslop, Bronze to Harry Holder and the the 4th place ribbon to Zachariah Green-Moore.
The first Under 9 girls event was the 25m Backstroke where Freya Eastwood won 1st place, Poppy Sales 2nd, Izabel Young 3rd and Eden Kaye 4th. In the 25m Breaststroke event, Izabel Young won Gold, Freya Eastwood Silver, Poppy Sales Bronze and the 4th place ribbon was won by Isla Westwood.
It was a close call in the senior gents 25m Butterfly with all three competitors finishing tightly together. The Gold was won by Martin Squire, Silver was Steve Price and Bronze Gabriel Midgley. The same tight finish happened with the 50 Breaststroke event, Martin Squire finished in 1st, Gabriel Midgley in 2nd and Steve Price in 3rd.
A great night of swimming was had at Brighouse Pool.
MARCH INTERNAL GALA 1
Welcoming new swimmers, participating for the first time, it was great to see many new names in the programme. President Mick Lamb was our Referee and Judge for the evening, keeping a watchful eye on the technique of his swimmers.
Ben Bottomley and Cameron Price gave some great performances swimming head to head in all of their events. Between them they set new records for the club and took home a collection of Gold and Silver medals.
Youngster William Robinson was delighted with himself setting a new club record in the Boys 11&12 years 50m Backstroke and winning the Gold medal. 13 year old Emily Layden-Fritz stormed her events by winning the Gold medal in all of her four events and setting new club records in each event too!
10 year old Ruby Doherty set a new club record in the Girls 10 years 25m Butterfly and of course took home the Gold medal.
Spencer Snowden won first place and the Gold medal in the 13 & 14 year boys 25m Backstroke, in 2nd place was Oliver Blamires and the Bronze was won by Harley Spears.
Julia Millington performed very well in the 11&12 Year girls 50m Backstroke. She won the Gold medal and first place. Julia then went on to take Gold in the Girls 25m Breaststroke.
It was super swimming all round, even in the Masters events; Gabriel Midgley took Gold and set a new club record in The Gents 25m Backstroke. He received a huge round of applause and cheers from his team mates.
BSC were extremely busy attending the Yorkshire Championships held at The John Charles Centre in Leeds and Ponds Forge in Sheffield. We also attended The Kirklees and District Meets at Huddersfield Leisure Centre.
BSC had six swimmers qualify for The Yorkshire Championships all of which gained personal best times and Cameron achieving finalist places for his events! A super well done to Ben Bottomley, Cameron Price, Poppy Layden-Fritz, Emily Layden-Fritz, Jamie Haines and William Robinson (not pictured).
At K&D Gala 3, sisters Ruby and Daisy Doherty both swam to victory in their events, Ruby winning the Under 10s 50m Backstroke final and Daisy winning the Under 12s 100m Individual Medley final. Jamie Haines was also on fine form winning the U12s 100m Breaststroke and Cameron price took first place in the Open 200m Individual Medley.
It was then onto K&D Gala 4 where the swimmers from Brighouse made themselves known yet again. With our travelling supporters in full volume they cheered our swimmers on in all their events.
Young Alicia Howells was delighted with her Bronze medal she achieved in the final of the U11 girls 50m Butterfly whilst team mate Chloe Hemingway took Silver in U13 100m Breaststroke. Ruby Doherty was back on top form and won The U10 girls 50m Butterfly. Jake Norris won the Bronze in the U9 s 50m Butterfly.
At the weekend just gone Brighouse Swimming Club travelled to The JCC in Leeds for the Jorvik Long Course Meet. Youngster Tailla Green-Moore competed for the very first time at an external competition and took home a Bronze medal for her event! Many personal best times were achieved and a huge amount of medals were brought back home to Brighouse.

Brighouse Swimming Club have made a fantastic start to 2018. With three competitions down already, as well as the first weekend of The Yorkshire Championships, the swimmers are bringing home the medals.
First weekend of January, a large group of swimmers attended The Harrogate Janus Meet at The Hydro Pool in Harrogate. A fantastic 10 gold, 13 silver, 9 bronze medals were won and 30 new personal best times set.
Next up was The Kirklees & District Gala 1 held at Huddersfield Leisure Centre. A fantastic set of results from all the swimmers, especially for Under 13 Girls Ruby Harris and Laura Whittington who took the Gold and Silver positions in the 100m Butterfly event. Youngster Jamie Haines won Gold in the Under 12 boys 100m Backstroke and Cameron Price was back on top form winning the Open 100m Freestyle.
The Brighouse Swimmers also attended The Kirklees & District gala 2, when yet again they came away with an array of trophies, medals and finalist ribbons. It was a fantastic result for the under 9 and Under 10 Girls in the 50m Freestyle event. Charlotte Shaw and Ruby Doherty won 1st and 2nd place with new to competition swimmer 8 year old Olivia Stafford, taking home the Gold medal, 1st place in the Under 9 category.
Jamie Haines won himself the Under 12 boys 100m Freestyle and Cameron Price took Gold in The Open 100m Breaststroke.
It was a superb performance from all the BSC swimmers who took part.
Last weekend was the first weekend of The Yorkshire Championships. With six of our swimmers qualifying for various events, first up was Jamie Haines and Cameron Price participating at The John Charles Centre in Leeds. Jamie placed 18th in the 100m Breaststroke and Cameron won himself a place in the final and finished in 4th place!
Swimmers Poppy Layden-Fritz, William Robinson, Ben Bottomley and Emily Layden-Fritz are also preparing their Yorkshire events which are coming up mid February at Ponds Forge in Sheffield.
With the competition calendar already in place, it is sure to be a busy year for Brighouse Swimming Club. Head Coach Brian Smart is proud of the way his swimmers carry out the training programmes and reward themselves and the club with fantastic results at competition.
