Membership year runs from January to December. Category 1 cost is £27 per member and Category 2 (members who will be swimming external galas) is £42. Category 3 is for volunteers, therefore the Club pays the ASA fee. From the membership fees, a proportion is paid to the ASA and the North East ASA office with the remainder for Club funds which is then used towards payment of medals and ribbons for internal galas, additional equipment which may be purchased, training for teachers and observers. etc., etc. Payment of membership by cash or cheque (payable to Brighouse Swimming Club). Please note that the Club cannot accept payment by debit or credit cards.

PLEASE SHOW MEMBERSHIP CARD OR PROVIDE MEMBERSHIP NUMBER TO CLUB RECEPTION WHEN ATTENDING LESSONS. THANK YOU.

LESSON FEES

The last price increase for lessons was in 2011 despite the fact that Calderdale Council increase pool hire every year. The committee will review the current lesson fees (£3 for 30 minutes and £3.50 for 45 minutes/1 hour) once we have been informed by the Council of the price increase. Please note that during school holidays attendance can be lower but pool hire charges still have to be paid.

CHANGE OF CONTACT DETAILS

Please inform Club Reception if any details change, in particular mobile number for first emergency contact. Thank you.

EXTERNAL GALAS

Over the last few weeks, the Club has had some success at external galas, please see noticeboard on poolside for details. Any members wishing to take part in external galas should discuss this with their teacher and the External Gala Co-ordinator, Siobhan Kaye, who is on poolside the majority of club nights.

VOLUNTEERS

The Club is run entirely by volunteers who give up their time freely. Without these volunteers, there would be no Swimming Club! We urgently require new volunteers (see details below) for:-

  • Club Reception Staff
  • Standback Observers
  • Teachers
  • Committee

SWIMMING TEACHERS

We have a number of swimming teachers with Level 1 Certificate and Level 2 Certificate. Calderdale require one teacher with Level 2 Certificate at each session. The majority of the Club’s swimming teachers hold the Level 2 and we can confirm that there is Level 2 Teacher at all of the Club’s sessions. Swimming lessons available 4 nights from beginners to competitive swimmers (total of 8 hours per week). As a Club, we offer to pay half of the course fees for anyone who would like to become a swimming teacher with a commitment to teach on a weekly basis for 12 months after which, the Club would then refund the remainder of the course fees. All Staff must complete a DBS check prior to starting.

For this role you would be required to:-

Complete a Club Membership Form

Reading of the Club’s Normal Operating Plan (NOP) and Emergency Action Plan (EAP) together with other policies

A tour/briefing by a Designated Manager at the Pool (no more than one hour)

CRB check

Attend a Safeguarding & Protecting Children Workshop every 3 years (3 hour course)

Shadow one of current teachers to gain some experience on poolside

Attend a Swimming Teachers Course – usually Sundays for a period of 6 weeks (full attendance required)

Reception Staff

Club runs on 4 nights and we require someone on Club Reception to take a register, collect session fees and deal with enrolling new members. Sessions on Mondays and Fridays run from 7.30pm to 9pm therefore Club Receptionist required from say around 7pm until 8.15pm. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, Club starts at 6.30pm until 9pm therefore cover required from around 6pm until 8.15pm.

For this role you would be required to:-

Complete a Club Membership Form

CRB check

Attend a Safeguarding & Protecting Children Workshop every 3 years (3 hour course)

Chair Poolside Observer

At each swimming session, Calderdale require an independent person to observe the children in the water who would be able to “sound the alarm” in an emergency. We have a rota for this role and try to ensure volunteers observe once a fortnight.

We are short of Chair Poolside Observers, in particular the earlier times, i.e. from 6.30pm to 8pm) which is why lifeguards have been introduced on Tuesdays and Thursdays. A tour/briefing by one of the Pool Managers has been arranged for Monday, the 10th February at 8pm – if you wold like to help and can attend, please inform Club Reception.
